Publisher's Description:

Quick ShutDown - Quick ShutDown - free Windows shutdown utility that allows to shutdown, reboot, logoff, hibernate, standby or lock your Windows session with a mouse click. When Quick ShutDown is running, an accurate miniature icon appears on the taskbar on the end opposite the Start button (next to the clock). Right-click on the icon and you have a choice to shutdown, reboot, standby, hibernate, lock, logoff and eject removable media. You can preset a command so that all you need to do is to left double-click on the its icon in the desktray and that function will be carried out. Also you can choose to click or double-click it with the left mouse button. Quick ShutDown optionally terminates programs that are not responding, making shutdowns both quicker and safer. You can easily set hotkeys for each task (shutdown, reboot, standby, hibernate, lock, logoff and media eject). In addition, Quick ShutDown can eject removable media drives at shutdown preventing you from losing your disks and CDs by leaving them in the drive when you leave. Also Quick ShutDown gives you the possibility to schedule shutdown operation using standard Windows task scheduler. Quick ShutDown works with Windows 95/98/Me/XP/NT/2000.

Hibernation Query

I am trying to use QSD to hibernate my computer at a specific time. I then use a scheduled task to waken it up later to run a presentation. If I let the PC hibernate naturally (using the power saver features in XP) my task reactivates the PC and runs the presentation. But when I use QSD the task does not reactivate it. Any ideas?
Thanks

Simplify Standby

Great help. Especially seeing that I do not have a Standby button on my keyboard.

Active Desktop

Only disappointing feature appears to be a disconnect of running applications from USB stick when locking the work station. Other then that full marks

Nice utility

It is a very light program (560KB) and works perfectly.

didn`t work for me

Quick Shutdown didn't work for me.
I tried it several times and it either rebooted immediately in hibernate mode, immediately turned back on in standby mode or froze.

didn`t do what I needed...

The default power options for hibernate and sleep, etc, don't work properly on many computers. (due to hardware, and god knows what else)

Even though, the manually triggered hibernate command, command line, and just about everything else do execute the hibernate.
Just NOT the power control options in XP.

I was looking for a tool that would shutdown, hibernate, etc, after a period of inactivity... the way the system is supossed to... :-)

THanks anyhow,
Andrew

Quick ShutDown in virtual machines

Finally found the time to load it, works great. Particularly useful in shutting down virtual machines.

Quick Shutdown review

I needed a program to hibernate an old laptop which didn't have a sleep button but did have several programmable buttons. From what I could see Windows XP doesn't have a hibernate function associated with it's shutdown command that I could access and associate with these programmable keys. I found this nifty little program on a web search and it does exactly as it says on the box without bloat and without being intrusive. It is also for free what more can I say but well done to the person that provided this very useful utility and to qarchive.org.

Works Fine

It work but is not very friendly for VBA automation I did find a way for shutdown to work from a 3rd party macro, which activates keyboard commands. Was a neat bit of software though. Keep up the good work!
